Preparing your organisation for future challenges

Change is an inevitable part of running any organisation. Funding pressures, leadership changes, emerging risks, new technologies and unexpected events can all affect how an organisation operates.

Strong governance can help organisations prepare for uncertainty rather than simply respond when challenges arise.

Regular risk management is an important starting point. Boards should have a clear understanding of the risks facing the organisation and consider how those risks could affect its people, finances, services and long-term objectives.

Financial planning and appropriate oversight can also help organisations understand their capacity to respond to changing circumstances. Succession planning is equally important, helping to reduce disruption when key board or leadership roles change.

Organisations should also periodically review whether their governance structures, policies and decision-making processes remain suitable as their circumstances evolve.

Preparing for the future does not mean predicting every challenge. It means building an organisation with the structures, awareness and capacity to respond effectively when circumstances change.
